In 1989 her diagnosis was cancer. She passed away 10 years afterward. Her father was Jewish and she was born into Reform Judaism. Handler was raised in a pleasant neighborhood and she enjoyed a joyful childhood. As she entered her twenties the Handler moved into Los Angeles in order to explore acting. To help support herself, Handler began to work as an actress. Handler began to do stand-up comedian full-time when she was 21. It was clear that she has a knack for story telling. Her first professional gig Handler started out her career as a member of the Oxygen network's all-female cast in the hidden camera/practical-joke reality show on TV called Girls Behaving badly. The show ran on air from 2002 until 2005. The host began appearing in different shows like Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began her professional career as a reporter on The Tonight Show. Handler made her breakthrough in 2006 hosting an episode on E! it was dubbed the Chelsea Handler Show. The Chelsea Show ran for 2 seasons. Handler then performed in America as part of the Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all broadcasted her stand-up show. The announcement was made in 2010 that she would host the MTV Video Music Awards 2010. It was only the second female host of the VMAs and was the first woman to do so after Roseanne Bar.
